Designer's note

The front page is the back of a book. There is no list of lists, only an index of the things, places and grudges that turn up inside them, and every page number opens the book at that exact item, in the middle of a list you did not know you were looking for. From there you turn pages, and the margins send you sideways to wherever else the same subject is indexed. A list of three gets a full plate per page; the hundred books run ten to a page like a bibliography.

Hardest to build: the index itself. It only works if it is written by a person with a sense of humour, so it cannot be generated from the list titles; the build should check that every locator still points at a real item and every item is indexed at least once. Back to the contact sheet.
