Designer's note

Core idea: a list is a receipt, and its length is the joke. Press a key on the register and that list prints out of the slot, shoving everything you have already read down the roll, so the page becomes a paper trail of your own browsing. A top 3 is a ticket stub. The 100 books is the drugstore receipt that reaches the floor, with a subtotal every ten lines so you always know how far down you are. Every receipt ends in tear-off coupons for other lists, which is what pulls people onward without ever showing them an index. The dithered logo at the head is the home for each list's art, item rows carry icons and outbound links, and the barcode is a permalink. Hardest to build: the feed animation over wildly different heights (a 100 line receipt cannot take ten times as long to print as a stub), and keeping a 420px column feeling generous rather than cramped on a wide desktop.
